There has been a slight change in weather across our state, and it's as if a door has opened bringing in a new breeze of love.
This week, I have been compelled by this wind to think about, soak in, and give back love. It truly is an amazing energy when we focus on how we can change the conversation in our minds and freely give of our hearts.
I am so blessed that I am filled with love daily. From what I do, to those I engage with, I am surrounded by the warmth of the emotion.
And I am on a mission to ensure that I am opening the door for others so that they can receive and feel the love the world holds for them.
With that, let's catch up on what I've been up to this week...

This gave me pause. This made me think about how language is used and the impact that a passive vs active statement can make. Think about it-- the original sentences put the emphasis on women. The corrected sentences put the emphasis on men. True confession: I had to go back to some grammar sites to understand the real difference and I found out that passive statements are generally frowned on because they put you in a subservient position. And guess what? Women use the passive tone much more than men. This is not good conversationally, but it is deadly when you are negotiating! Keep that in mind the next time you are talking about your business. Do you use language which is more passive, for example do you say things like “I think I have a product you can use”? That statement sounds more active/assertive if you phrase it like this “I have a product you can use. I know this because I’ve done research and I know what your clients like.” See the difference? Once I became aware of this, I started catching myself and others using that dreaded passive sentence construction. I’m on a mission to change that!
Following
I follow Love What Matters on Facebook (click here): their posts always leave me smiling or laughing so loud I have tears in my eyes. And everyone needs feel good moments throughout the day, right! The picture here is from this recent post: "So proud of Justin. His friend (without the jacket) isn't allowed to wear a costume because of his religion, so Justin and the rest of the boys brainstormed to come up with an idea that would work for them, without having to exclude anyone. Ladies and gentlemen, you are looking at the President of the United States and his secret service men." This is diversity and inclusion!
Connecting
My core values are connections, creativity and courage. I’m one of the lucky ones who gets to live my core values on a regular basis. So much so that I sometimes underestimate how powerful each of those core values can be when you apply them… I recently sent the following note to 10 people that I wish I connected with more often because they are really important to me: “I delight in taking an afternoon tea break and I especially enjoy chocolate in the afternoon. Dove chocolates have a message inside the wrapper—this was yesterday’s message. From my heart to yours.” The response was like receiving a shower of blessings from around the world. The notes in response made my heart happy and I felt connected again to each person in a very unique way. This is a reminder to you—connect with people who are important to you. You don’t have to write a letter (unless you want to, and of course that would have an even bigger impact) just send a photo. Sometimes the photo speaks louder than words. I promise that you that the recipient will be happy and you will be happy too!
Celebrating
I’m celebrating the official countdown to the launch of my second book: The Decision to Start; 25 Tips for a Second Career as a Woman Business Owner. Do you have a friend who has told you that she doesn’t like her job? That she feels unappreciated and she wishes she could start her own business? This book is for her—or you, if you’re that person! It’s a short reference book with 25 stories that are inspirational and each related to the 25 tips outlined in the book. In my opinion, business ownership is the real key to economic independence. As a small business owner, YOU get to make decisions that impact you professionally and personally. I’m really excited to share what I have learned over the years and especially what women who made the transition have learned. I hope you’ll join my launch event: you’ll get a chance to share your story and/or your questions and doubts with a group of supportive sisters who will also share the good, the bad and sometimes ugly things that happened to make them say, yes, I can be a business owner, yes, I have the experience and yes people need what I have to offer!
Launch date: November 3rd at 6:00 pm Eastern
